The Summer of 2012
It’s been a while since I’ve updated my blog, my apologies.
My season is soon coming to a close. The 7th of September will be my last competition and also my biggest. I am very excited about competing at the Memorial van Damme in front of a sold out crowd.
I’ve had some ups and downs this season, as it generally goes. May was a bit of a rollercoaster month for me with the up being winning the Flemish Championship. June was better; I increased my outdoor record from 4m11 (2011) to 4m22, then to 4m26 to take the Belgian Outdoor Record, and also grabbed the title for the Belgian Championships. Continuing on this path I broke the All-Time Belgian Record with a jump of 4m29 at the KBC Nacht. I am pleased with this height, but feel like I still should be jumping higher, especially when I re-watch the video and see how much height I had over the bar. Having been trying to qualify for the Olympics I competed in a lot of competitions, which has unfortunately put a bit of a strain on my achilles tendon.
As this summer season is quite long – beginning May-September, I took a small week off to go visit my sister in Bregenz, where she was performing in the Opera on the Lake – Andre Chenier. While it was most certainly enjoyable to see her and the show, I would say the highlight of the trip was a 9 hour hike + via ferrata (my first time, but not my last).
I was invited to compete in the Gugl Games in Linz a European Athletics Classic Meeting, but unfortunately had issues finding a flight that was able to take my poles, oh how I envy the sprinters/long jumpers, but definitely not the decathletes (poor guys).
I’ll try and keep you guys updated with more regular postings.
